Children’s Programs

Children’s Ministries

First United Methodist Church of Bastrop has active children’s programs in a safe and loving environment for children to learn about the love that Jesus Christ has for them.

Partner with us as we begin to build your child’s faith as they begin their relationship with God.  Read about our available children’s programs below.

Children’s Church

Children’s Church gathers in the Sanctuary Sundays at 11 AM.  Children will experience some of the worship service and then go upstairs for a short class.

Our Nursery provides care for newborns to 4 years of age.  We are available from 8:30 am to noon every Sunday and Monday and Wednesday evenings, from 7 pm to 8 pm for Band and Choir practice.  Our nursery staff is Safe Sanctuary Trained There will always be two adults in the nursery for your child’s safety.  Judi Krause is our Nursery Coordinator.

First Friday / Parents Night Out Program

May 6th, 2016 will be the last parents nite out until September 2nd, 2016. Includes Childcare in our nursery, 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM.  This service is available for newborns and children up to 10 years old.  Cost $15 for first child, $5 per additional sibling. We will have games, crafts, snacks, movies.  Godly Play

Children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade are welcome to join us for Godly Play, an imaginative approach to learning Bible stories.  We explore parables, sacred stories and liturgy in order to learn more about God, ourselves and the world around us. Meet in the main building choir room beginning at 9:30 for singing.  Class starts at 10 and ends at 10:45.

Sunday School classes

Each Sunday, third grade through fifth grade students begin Sunday School with music in the chapel before going upstairs to room 201. Classes usually consist of Bible-based stories followed by discussions that allow students to connect these stories to their lives.  Other activities include games, crafts and snacks.

Monday School

From 4 to 5 pm every Monday, during the school year, we have a fellowship hall full of school age children singing, making crafts, and hearing bible stories.  There are lots of children that can’t attend church and Sunday School on Sundays so we created Monday School.

Children’s Bell Choir

We have 2 groups of children who ring bells using the Kristal Bell Method.  These are small bells that are different colors. Reading music is not necessary.  A child needs to know their colors and they become musicians. During the summer, practice is on Wednesdays at 11am in the fellowship hall, starting July 15th.

After School Tutoring

Our after school tutoring ministry reaches out to school age children who need extra assistance in reading and math.  We have amazing tutors who meet with students every Wednesday during the school year at 4 pm.

First Friday

First Friday is a once a month childcare which coincides with the First Friday Artwalk in Bastrop. This childcare service is available for children up to ten years of age. First Friday is unavailable for the summer and will resume September 2, 2016.

Matthew 19:14: Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
